Choose the right Medellín airport
A Medellín airport search can refer to two different places. José María Córdova, code MDE, serves the city from Rionegro, about 35 km away according to the city tourism portal. Olaya Herrera, code EOH, is the city airport associated mainly with domestic and regional connections. Read the airport code on each flight before arranging a pickup or planning a connection.
Start with the airport, then the exact accommodation address. A city name on a transfer search is only the starting point for organising the rest of the journey. Keep your arrival day flexible instead of attaching a tightly timed tour to the landing time. The where to stay guide helps compare accommodation locations, and the city visit overview gives ideas for once you have settled in.

Taxi and transfer from José María Córdova Airport (MDE)
For an arrival at MDE, organise a journey from the airport in Rionegro to your address in Medellín. Give the pickup service the flight details, date and destination, then check the meeting instructions and what the quoted journey covers. Choose transport operated by an authorised company with an appropriately authorised vehicle. A direct transfer can be useful when you want to handle the arrival and your luggage as one journey.
For travel in the opposite direction, Medellín introduced a basic-taxi fare of 132,000 COP to José María Córdova from 2 February 2026. That is a city-to-airport reference. For an airport arrival, obtain the fare for MDE to your particular destination, including the terms for tolls, luggage or any other charges. Keep a taxi fare and a prebooked private-transfer quote separate when comparing options.
A prebooked ride from MDE to your accommodation can be arranged around your arrival plans. Availability depends on the travel date, so enter your actual date and passenger details before choosing a vehicle. Leave room for the complete arrival process and the road journey; a short tunnel travel reference is not a hotel arrival time.

A coffee outing after your arrival day
This coffee excursion includes return transport, guided time, coffee tastings and a plantain snack. It is an activity after arrival, not an airport transfer.
Airport bus and the onward city connection
The airport bus operator describes a Medellín to MDE service operating around the clock with departures every 15 minutes. The undated online starting fare of 20,000 COP was for one adult from Paradero Sandiego in Medellín to MDE. Use that as a direction-specific planning reference, then check your own departure point, travel direction and fare. Keep the airport bus journey separate from the next leg to your accommodation.
If you are arriving by bus and continuing by Metro or taxi, first establish the actual city stop and the onward connection. Your accommodation address helps decide whether another interchange is worthwhile with your luggage. Metro payment points accept cash, and the Cívica system has different fare profiles. Carry Colombian pesos for transport needs rather than relying on US dollars or assuming every payment point accepts a bank card.
Olaya Herrera Airport (EOH)
Olaya Herrera is the separate city airport for mainly domestic and regional services. Treat a connection between EOH and MDE as a road journey between airports, with its own transport arrangement and time allowance. Check the code on the arriving flight and on the onward ticket before deciding how much connection time to leave. A change of airport is more involved than walking between terminals.
For an EOH pickup, use Olaya Herrera and the code EOH in your instructions. Match the pickup point to your actual flight and destination, then agree the journey price and luggage arrangements. The airport photograph on this page shows Olaya Herrera; it should not be used to identify your meeting place at José María Córdova.
Accommodation location and the first city journeys
El Poblado has cafés, galleries and nightlife, with Provenza and Vía Primavera among its named areas. Laureles has a residential profile and restaurants including along Avenida 70. Centro places you near the museum and Plaza Botero area. Compare the address, noise expectations and journeys you intend to make, instead of choosing only by district name. Travel safety advice recommends attention in public spaces and discreet handling of valuables, especially after dark.
Once settled, use the Metro and Metrocable guide to understand city connections. A later coffee outing has its own pickup arrangement: the featured excursion includes return transport, coffee tastings and a plantain snack, with accommodation and pickup time to be agreed. Plan meals separately, as lunch is not included in that offer.
If you are considering a rental car for an onward road journey, check the rental firm's licence and booking requirements for your circumstances. Make that decision around the wider route rather than using it as a substitute for planning the airport-to-accommodation leg.
Airport arrival questions
Are MDE and EOH two terminals of the same airport?
They are separate airports. MDE is José María Córdova in Rionegro; EOH is Olaya Herrera in the city. Allow for a road transfer if your flights use both.
Does the 132,000 COP taxi reference cover my MDE arrival?
It is the basic-taxi reference introduced for Medellín to the airport from 2 February 2026. Request the price and conditions for your airport-to-address journey separately.
Is the coffee excursion an airport pickup service?
It is a coffee activity with return transport and an agreed accommodation pickup. Book the airport transfer separately and give the excursion its own place after arrival.
